Attend 'Meet the Author: Exploring the Carolina Bays with Tom Poland' on March 2

Author and University of Georgia alumnus Tom Poland (A.B.J. ’71, M.Ed. ’75) will discuss his latest book, “Carolina Bays: Wild, Mysterious, and Majestic Landforms,” which explores and documents the bays of North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia. Alumna Sofia Gratas (A.B. ’20), who has a bachelor’s degree in journalism with a minor in ecology, will serve as the moderator.

Featuring more than 150 color images, the book takes you from an aerial perspective of these unusual bays to an on-the-ground safari, from frogs that croak and bark and boom to skinks that skim across the water as if on skis, and on to squawking herons to black-and-yellow polka-dotted caterpillars. There are growling alligators and 400-year-old trees and delicate yellow-fringed orchids. Life is found in astounding abundance.

This event will take place via Zoom and is sponsored by the Mary Frances Early College of Education and the Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication.
