Mativo receives UGA’s Josiah Meigs Distinguished Teaching Professorship

John Mativo, an associate professor in the Department of Career and Information Studies, received the University of Georgia’s highest teaching honor, the Josiah Meigs Distinguished Teaching Professorship.

Mativo regularly collaborates with industry leaders in developing solutions to real-life challenges that are then subsequently used as the inspiration for outstanding instruction to benefit his students. As a member of the Research and Innovation in Learning research group in the College of Education, he contributed to the development of a robotics curriculum for elementary students that has been used in the U.S., China, South Korea, Honduras, and Tanzania.

“It’s an honor to work for the betterment of student success,” he said.

Hill receives 2021 William E. Dugger Exemplary Collaboration Award

Roger Hill, a professor in the Department of Career and Information Studies and head of the Department of Mathematics and Science Education, received the 2021 William E. Dugger Exemplary Collaboration Award for his work with the Council on Technology and Engineering Teacher Education’s Twenty-First Century Leadership Academy. Hill received the award at the 2021 International Technology and Engineering Educators Association virtual annual conference on Saturday, March 27.

This award was established to acknowledge Dugger’s life’s work and collaborative efforts to advance the mission of technological literacy for all. Each year, the award is given to an individual who has made a significant contribution to technology and engineering education through collaboration.

“For over three decades, Dr. Dugger was a leader in our field, instrumental in developing the standards for technological and engineering literacy and a strong proponent for the Twenty-First Century Leadership Academy,” Hill said. “It is a distinct honor to be recognized with an award bearing his name.”

UGA Speech and Hearing Clinic receives Parents Leadership Council grant

The University of Georgia’s Parents Leadership Council (PLC) recently awarded a grant to the UGA Speech and Hearing Clinic’s Outreach and Financial Assistance Fund.

The $12,285 grant will go toward increasing UGA undergraduate students’ awareness of and access to speech, language, and hearing services at the UGA Speech and Hearing Clinic, as well as supporting the clinic’s educational efforts about preventing noise-induced hearing loss.
