Media mention: Associate professor turns STEM education into race cars

John Mativo, an associate professor in the Department of Career and Information Studies, recently highlighted how STEM education can be used to build race cars in Grassroots Motorsports.

UGA Motorsports, a student-led organization, currently has 90 active members. Mativo is the faculty advisor of the organization, which is a collaboration between the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) Collegiate Design Series teams and the Endurance team, formerly known as the ChampCar team.

“We engage in STEM activities,” Mativo said. “For example, this semester we hosted a webinar titled ‘Women in Mobility,’ where five women in the automotive and aerospace industries in the Atlanta SAE Chapter participated as panelists. Sixty-five people attended our webinar.”
