Call for proposals: Affordable Learning Georgia's Affordable Materials Grants
The University of Georgia’s Office of Online Learning (OOL) is issuing an open call for collaboration with interested faculty on two upcoming rounds of Affordable Learning Georgia’s (ALG) Affordable Materials Grants. These grants provide support compensation to faculty, librarians, instructional designers, and more to transform textbooks and materials into open educational resources (OERs). Expanding access to OERs lowers the costs for students and works towards equitable access, contributing to retention, progression, and graduation.
The two available grants are:
- Transformation Grants: Support replacing existing textbooks with no- or low-cost materials (final semester of fall 2022)
- Continuous Improvement Grants: Support substantial revisions to an existing OER, the creation of ancillary materials for an existing OER, or replacement of a current OER with a new/improved option
In a previous round of these grants, OOL collaborated with the Department of Kinesiology to launch the Open UGA website on Pressbooks, authoring texts for over 30 courses now being used by about 7,000 students per year. According to ALG’s Data Center, Affordable Materials Grants affect over 16,000 students annually and have helped UGA students save over $7 million.
Please submit a proposal to collaborate with the OOL on ALG’s upcoming rounds 20 and 21.
- Proposal deadline: Monday, Aug. 30
This program is open to individual faculty or teams. We hope to make the most impact possible and encourage faculty with large online courses to apply.
