UGA Engage & Learn Staff Mentor Program

In 2019, the presidential task force for staff professional development proposed a staff mentor program to cultivate a university-wide mentoring culture. A pilot program that launched this year under the Engage & Learn umbrella is already generating strong interest.

What is the UGA Staff Mentor Program?

The UGA Staff Mentor Program follows a group mentoring model. One mentor and 5-7 mentees will join to form a mentor circle and meet for 12 weeks. The program is founded on principles of adult learning in a true learning partnership. Mentor circle participants will learn about themselves, each other, and the University as they participate in discussions focused on career and personal development topics.

What are the benefits for mentors and mentees?

Serving as a mentor provides staff with a unique opportunity to share what they have learned and reinforce a culture where all university community members are encouraged to learn and grow. In addition, mentors will gain leadership skills as they practice facilitating group discussions, helping their colleagues identify goals and resources, and coaching them through challenges.

How can I participate in the Staff Mentor Program?

All UGA staff members are eligible to participate. Due to the popularity of the program, there is a significant need for faculty and/or staff willing to serve as mentors. Individuals with at least two years of experience at UGA are eligible to lead Mentor Circles, regardless of career stage. Explore next steps, learn more about what it looks like to be a mentor or a mentee, or register to be a part of the program by visiting the UGA Staff Mentor Program website.
