Promotion and Tenure Procedures Workshop

This workshop will provide tips for navigating the guidelines for appointment and promotion and tenure. It will include an overview of important time points prior to and during the application process. Academic (tenure-track/tenured) and clinical rank faculty, promotion and tenure unit heads, and support staff who would like to better understand promotion and tenure procedures for these faculty ranks are encouraged to attend. Leading Faculty: Essential Communication Tools

As a leader, do you sometimes avoid having difficult conversations? This workshop will offer communication techniques that you can implement when faced with challenging interpersonal situations. You will also consider some of the research related to human motivation and how to leverage this in your context. This interactive workshop will offer specific techniques you can use immediately.

Managing Your Energy, Not Your Time

This workshop is based on the research conducted by Jim Loehr and Tony Schwartz, authors of the New York Times bestseller “The Power of Full Engagement: Managing Energy, Not Time, Is the Key to High Performance and Personal Renewal.” Loehr is a sports psychologist who developed these principles during his work with athletes and corporate executives. Schwartz is a reporter and science writer and founder of The Energy Project, whose mission is to improve the performance of organizations and their leaders. Loehr and Schwartz discovered that managing energy, not time, is the key to enduring high performance as well as to health, happiness, and life balance. In this workshop, participants will take an energy audit to pinpoint any energy depleting behaviors and then discuss ways to change their habits to increase their level of energy and engagement.

Mentor Series: Fostering Independence

Would you like to see your mentees demonstrate greater independence? This session of the mentoring series will further your skills in cultivating environments to help your mentees establish trust, gain confidence, and achieve goals. This interactive, online session is for all faculty who engage in undergraduate, graduate, and peer mentoring. This workshop draws from training offered via the Center for Improvement of Mentor Experiences in Research and the work of Pfund, Branchaw, and Handelsman. This session is a partnership between the Graduate School, the Graduate Mentoring Academy, the UGA Mentor Program, and the Office of Faculty Affairs.

Lecturer Appointment and Promotion Guidelines Workshop

This workshop will provide tips for navigating the revised promotion guidelines for lecturers and include an overview of the new principal lecturer rank, third-year review and preliminary consideration, promotion and reappointment application process, and timelines. Lecturers and senior lecturers, promotion unit heads, and support staff who would like to better understand lecturer appointment and promotion procedures are encouraged to attend. Solo Success: How to Thrive in the Academy When You’re the Only ______ in Your Department

The Solo Success virtual campus workshop is specifically designed to address the unique concerns of under-represented faculty members and those who are the only ______ in their departments. Participants will identify common challenges and learn specific strategies to increase their productivity. They will also learn how to serve strategically, teach efficiently, and build strong and healthy professional relationships. This workshop is a joint program between the Office of Institutional Diversity, the Office of Faculty Affairs, and the National Center for Faculty Development and Diversity. All events are held online via Zoom, except as noted. For in-person events, we will be following USG and UGA guidelines and encourage mask use for indoor spaces.
