Black History Month events

February is a time reserved for the celebration of Black History Month, a month-long observance created by historian Carter G. Woodson and minister Jesse E. Moorland to honor and affirm the lives of Black people in the U.S. Every day, but especially during the month of February, we celebrate the achievements and contributions of Black people throughout U.S. history.

Despite centuries of injustice and adversity, Black people persist. This month, we choose to remember and honor the full lives of all Black people, including their brilliance, their joy, their beauty, their healing, and their wellness. Please check out some Black History Month events offered on campus and the surrounding Athens community:
