UGA internal search for Vice President for Instruction

UGA’s Office of the Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost invites applications and nominations for the position of Vice President for Instruction.
The Vice President for Instruction provides strategic leadership for a wide range of teaching and learning initiatives that advance UGA as one of the top-performing universities in the nation. The Vice President for Instruction facilitates the creation and implementation of innovations in the curricula and instructional methods and the assessment of student learning. Along with implementing relevant and contemporary experiences for undergraduates that prepare them for success at UGA and beyond, the Vice President for Instruction is responsible for enrollment management, including student recruitment, retention, and financial aid. The Vice President works closely with the Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs, vice provosts, deans, department heads, and other units across campus in enhancing UGA’s instruction and learning environment.
The Office of the Vice President for Instruction has led many initiatives to enhance the undergraduate student experience, including the First-Year Odyssey Seminar and experiential learning graduation requirements, Double Dawgs pathways, small class size initiative, Georgia Commitment Scholarship Program, and numerous others. As UGA’s undergraduate community continues to excel academically, the University is poised to move to the next level in implementing exciting and innovative academic programming that prepares undergraduates for success in their chosen endeavors.
In fall 2022, UGA will launch Active Learning as the Quality Enhancement Plan as part of the University’s reaffirmation of accreditation with SACSCOC. The Vice President for Instruction will play a key leadership role in the implementation of the recommendations from the QEP Development and Implementation Committee, as many units in the Office of Instruction are tasked with parts of the plan.
The position is only open to tenured full professors at UGA. Applicants should possess a record of sound administrative, personnel, and fiscal management at UGA or another large research institution. Candidates should also demonstrate a passion for ensuring student success; a commitment to equity and inclusion; excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate collegially with a wide range of internal and external constituencies; and strategic and innovative thinking in a position of leadership.

- Audrey A. Haynes, Meigs Distinguished Teaching Professor and associate professor of political science in the School of Public and International Affairs
- Jean Martin-Williams, Meigs Distinguished Teaching Professor in the Hugh Hodgson School of Music and associate dean in the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences
- Megan Mittelstadt, director of the Center for Teaching and Learning
- Naomi J. Norman, Meigs Distinguished Teaching Professor in the Department of Classics and associate vice president for instruction
- Ramaraja Ramasamy, professor in the School of Chemical, Materials, and Biomedical Engineering and associate dean for academic affairs and assessment in the College of Engineering
- Alton M. Standifer, deputy chief of staff in the Office of the President
- Henry N. Young, Kroger Professor and head of the Department of Clinical and Administrative Pharmacy in the College of Pharmacy
