Dowie-Chin receives AERA Outstanding Dissertation Award

Tianna Dowie-Chin, an assistant professor in the Department of Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies Education, recently won the 2022 Outstanding Dissertation Award from the American Educational Research Association’s Critical Examination of Race, Ethnicity, Class, and Gender Special Interest Group (SIG #27) for her dissertation titled “My Child’s First Teacher: Utilizing Black Mothers’ Counter-Narratives to Reimagine Black Schooling.” She was recognized at AERA’s annual meeting on April 21-26.

Alvermann receives SPE Outstanding Book Award

Donna Alvermann, the Omer Clyde and Elizabeth Parr Aderhold Professor in Education and Distinguished Research Professor Emeritus in the Department of Language and Literacy Education, recently received an Outstanding Book Award from the Society of Professors of Education for co-editing “Ideas That Changed Literacy Practices: First-Person Accounts from Leading Voices.” The book features first-person accounts from 32 literacy education scholars reflecting on how their research into literacy education influenced the field.

Sayeski develops dyslexia video series for Georgia Department of Education

Kristin Sayeski, an associate professor in the Department of Communication Sciences and Special Education, developed a four-part video series for the Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE). The series was designed to provide information about dyslexia to teacher candidates, school personnel, and families. The videos can be accessed by visiting the GaDOE’s Dyslexia landing page.
