Two alumni are directing the Army’s new health program

Alumni Barringer (FACS), Bigelman (COE), and Gist (COE)Colonel Kevin Bigelman (Ph.D. ’09) and Colonel Nicholas Gist (M.Ed. ’03, Ph.D. ’13), alumni of the Department of Kinesiology, are leading the Army’s newest health initiative focused on reducing injury and improving soldier readiness.

“The system empowers and equips soldiers to take charge of their health, fitness, and well-being to optimize individual performance, while preventing injury and disease,” Bigelman said.

Bigelman and Gist were advised by professor emeritus Kirk Cureton while they were doctoral students.

Two College advisors win UGA’s inaugural Transfer Advocate Award

Hargrave and Robinson holding certificatesEmily Robinson, an academic advisor for intended elementary education and special education students, and Debbie Hargrave, a senior academic advisor for in-major elementary education and science education students, both received UGA’s inaugural Transfer Advocate Award.

The award, which originated in the Franklin College Office of Transfer Academic Services as the Transfer Champion Award, provides students with the opportunity to recognize an advisor or staff member who played an instrumental role during their transition to UGA.

Robinson and Hargrave were recognized during the Academic Advising Coordinating Council’s 2022 Spring Workshop on May 3.

Bryant to serve as student speaker at Spring 2022 Commencement

Karli “KB” Bryant, a student in the Department of Communication Sciences and Special Education, will address students during UGA’s Spring 2022 Undergraduate Commencement ceremony on Friday, May 13.

A lover of writing and communication, she said celebration will be the central theme of her address to 2022 graduates.

Congratulations to the College’s First Honor Graduates!

Fifteen First Honor Graduates in the College will be recognized at the University of Georgia’s Spring 2022 Undergraduate Commencement ceremony on Friday, May 13.

First Honor Graduates must earn a cumulative 4.0 grade point average in all courses at UGA and college-level transfer courses.
