Attend orientation for incoming faculty

The Office of Faculty Affairs is pleased to share plans for the August New Faculty Orientation (NFO) and the year-long Keys to UGA: New Faculty Academy.

New Faculty Orientation 

  • Date: Tuesday, Aug. 2-Wednesday, Aug. 3
  • Time: 8:30 a.m.-4:15 p.m. on Tuesday; 8:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. on Wednesday

NFO 2022 will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 2, from 8:30 a.m.- 4:15 p.m. and Wednesday, Aug. 3, from 8:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. at the Georgia Center for Continuing Education & Hotel in Athens.

On Tuesday, President Jere W. Morehead and Provost S. Jack Hu will welcome incoming faculty and reflect on UGA’s tripartite mission. In addition, this event will include two longstanding, popular components of the NFO: a panel offering “Strategies to Ensure Smooth Sailing” and an overview of “UGA Traditions, Legends, and Lingo.” This day will focus on instructional excellence with remarks from senior leadership and current faculty recognized for teaching effectiveness.

On Wednesday, senior administrators will orient new faculty to their role in UGA’s research and service missions. Their remarks will be followed by topic-driven breakout sessions featuring key offices and current faculty that excel in research and service. Day two will conclude with a resource fair and luncheon.


Keys to UGA: New Faculty Academy

  • Time: 10 a.m.-2:30 p.m. each day
  • Location: Zoom

Keys to UGA: New Faculty Academy is a year-long series of workshops and events designed to welcome, acclimate, and inform incoming faculty. Keys to UGA will begin with four “quick start” workshops held on Thursday, Aug. 4, and Friday, Aug. 5, via Zoom.

A special north campus tour for incoming faculty will be held on Monday, Aug. 15 from 9:30-10:30 a.m. The tour begins at the Arch (intersection of E. Broad Street and College Avenue). Following the campus tour, faculty will walk or take the bus to the Delta Innovation Hub (210 Spring Street), where an informal lunch will be held from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
