Research: Getting in the Game

A study in the College’s Neuromusculoskeletal Health Lab aims to improve the lives of children with cerebral palsy through a new treatment called whole-body vibration therapy.

Christopher Modlesky (M.A. ’95, Ph.D. ’02), the Georgia Athletic Association Professor of Kinesiology and the study’s lead investigator, said the preliminary studies of the treatment point toward positive effects on balance and muscles.

“The focus of this study is to look at a mild vibration intervention and determine if it can improve muscle size and quality and if it can improve balance, ultimately increasing the child’s participation in physical activity,” he said.
