Department of Kinesiology, UGA Concussion Research Laboratory part of NFL research partnership
The Mary Frances Early College of Education’s Department of Kinesiology and the UGA Concussion Research Laboratory have partnered with the National Football League (NFL) to study the effects of on-field head impacts using mouthguards with sensors.
The partnership includes eight research universities across the country, including UGA, and is aimed at reducing injuries through equipment, training, rule changes, and player behavior.
“Our research affiliation with the NFL, along with our longstanding partnership with the University of Georgia Department of Kinesiology and sports concussion laboratory, housed in the Mary Frances Early College of Education, supports our goals to provide the highest medical care possible to our student-athletes and to make a positive impact on healthcare, sports, performance, and life,” said Ron Courson, executive associate athletic director of sports medicine at UGA.
