Adah Miller named Early-Career Research Fellow by Gulf Research Program

Emily Adah Miller, assistant professor in the Department of Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies Education, was recently named a 2022-24 Early-Career Research Fellow by the National Academies’ Gulf Research Program.

The inaugural cohort of Education Research Fellows will work to advance K-12 educational equity in science and environmental literacy, focusing on recent natural disasters in the Gulf Coast and Alaskan regions and their effects on educational opportunities.

Staff member, alumna receive President’s Fulfilling the Dream Award

Jason Edwards (B.S.Ed. ’15, M.S. ’18, Ed.D. ’25), associate director of alumni relations in the Mary Frances Early College of Education, and Laura Whitaker (B.S.Ed. ’07, M.Ed. ’10), CEO of Extra Special People, Inc., were two of three recipients of the President’s Fulfilling the Dream Award at the 2023 Martin Luther King Jr. Freedom Breakfast.

The award honors students, faculty, staff, and local community members contributing to human rights, justice, and race relations. Additionally, intended elementary education major Serenity Starr (B.S.Ed. ’25), was one of two students who performed “Lift Ev’ry Voice and Sing” and “Lean on Me.”
