Media mention: Garrett writes op-ed in AJC

Jim Garrett, professor in the Department of Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies Education, recently published an op-ed in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution discussing the rise of laws that lead to districts and buildings banning ideas related to honest teaching of the country’s racialized history.

He said the the law as written does not prohibit many of the things that we think it does.

“Teachers are public intellectuals, and there is strength in our numbers and in our collective agency to push back against anti-intellectual impulses and allied agendas that continue to circulate around us,” Garrett said.
