New leave category
What is changing?
Beginning Tuesday, March 14, eligible faculty and staff will have the option to request “vacation in lieu of sick” as a leave type when submitting leave requests. This affects the cascading leave rules for regular sick leave requests and for extended absence requests. The qualifying sick leave reasons as defined in the policy must be met to use vacation in lieu of sick.
What are Cascading Leave Rules?
When an employee submits a leave request, the cascading leave order determines which leave type is deducted first. For example, if an employee requests 16 hours of sick leave but only has a sick leave balance of eight hours, OneUSG Connect will deduct the available eight hours of sick leave followed by available comp time, deferred holiday, and/or vacation based on the order established in the Cascading Leave Rules.
How does this affect me?
In addition to the current leave request types, eligible faculty and staff can request vacation in lieu of sick leave, enabling the requestor to use their vacation leave balance prior to their sick leave balance for qualifying sick leave events.
Additional information on this new option is included in the vacation in lieu of sick leave document and the sick leave policy.
