College of Education members recognized during 2023 Honors Week

Every year, the University of Georgia celebrates the successes of its students, faculty, staff, and alumni in a series of events during Honors Week. These honors include teaching, research, and public service awards.

This year, UGA honored two members in the College:

Bud Cooper, clinical professor and clinical education coordinator in the Department of Kinesiology, was awarded a Non-Tenure Track Faculty Research Excellence Award. Cooper’s research on heat safety among high school and college athletes in Georgia has led to changes in policy and reduced the frequency of heat illness across the state and around the nation. He has shared his expertise on the effects of heatstroke with local and national publications.

Anne Waswa, doctoral candidate in mathematics education in the Department of Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies Education, was awarded a Graduate Student Excellence-in-Teaching Award. Waswa’s research is focused on supporting the mathematical creativity of pre-service teachers. Additionally, she was part of a research team that created data visualizations to help communicate information and risks of the COVID-19 pandemic to the public. She received an Outstanding Teaching Assistant Award during UGA’s 2022 Honors Week.
