LLED 8888: JoLLE editorial positions open

Please help spread the word to existing and incoming students that we have editorial positions open in the peer-reviewed Journal of Language and Literacy Education (JoLLE), which is published as part of a course.

The course, which meets Mondays this fall from 5:20-8:05 p.m., is open to both M.A. and Ph.D. students. Students are assigned editorial responsibilities and help publish the journal as part of their coursework. JoLLE has a strong reputation in the field of language and literacy education, with a relatively small acceptance rate—we get dozens of manuscripts a semester and received 50 submissions last summer alone. Additionally, JoLLE receives thousands of views and downloads monthly (as documented by ERIC).

As a result of participating in JoLLE, students gain:

  • Experience in academic publishing, including manuscript selection, copyediting, and layout design
  • Exposure to the peer-review process, including critical evaluation of research articles and constructive feedback to authors
  • Development of critical thinking and analytical skills through evaluating the quality and significance of scholarly work
  • Opportunities to network with other scholars in their field, including fellow doctoral students, faculty members, and professionals in the publishing industry
  • Enhanced writing and communication skills through editing and providing feedback on articles and interacting with authors and colleagues
  • Preparation for a career in academia or publishing
  • Development of leadership and teamwork skills through collaborating with other editors, managing deadlines, and overseeing the publication process
  • Exposure to a broad range of research topics, methodologies, and perspectives, which can broaden their knowledge and understanding of the field
  • The chance to contribute to the advancement of scholarship in their field, by promoting and disseminating high-quality research
  • The opportunity to organize a high-quality conference on a theme of their choosing
