Shared sick leave program

Shared sick leave program

University of Georgia faculty and staff who meet certain eligibility requirements may voluntarily donate unused sick leave to a shared leave pool for fellow faculty and staff. Benefits open enrollment is the only opportunity that you have to enroll in or make donations to the shared sick leave pool for 2024.

How do I join the shared sick leave pool?

If you wish to join the shared sick leave pool, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Complete your provisional employment period
  • Donate a minimum of eight hours sick leave during open enrollment (Monday, Oct. 23-Friday, Nov. 3)
  • Have a minimum of 48 hours remaining in your sick leave balance on Jan. 1, 2024

What if I am already a member of the shared sick leave pool?

If you are already a member of the shared sick leave pool, this is a reminder that although you are not required to donate additional sick leave to remain in the pool, you may donate up to 80 sick leave hours during the upcoming open enrollment period. Please remember that you need a minimum of 48 hours of sick leave balance on Jan. 1, 2024, to maintain the required 40-hour sick leave balance after your donation is processed in January.

Please note that UGA does not use the USG shared leave enrollment forms. A link to the enrollment portal will be distributed during the open enrollment period. If you have any questions about the shared sick leave pool, please email University HR or call 706-542-2222.

Is my information up to date?

Benefits open enrollment is also a great time to review and update the following information in OneUSG Connect.

  • Personal and emergency contact information
  • Voluntary demographic data
  • W-2 consent
  • Banking information

Remember: Open enrollment is also a good time to review and update beneficiary information for life insurance, HSAs, and retirements plans.
