Sayeski publishes book on dyslexia

Kristin Sayeski, an associate professor in the Department of Communication Sciences and Special Education, published a book on dyslexia for teachers and families this month.

Published by Rowman & Littlefield, “Unraveling Dyslexia: A Guide for Teachers and Families” provides teachers, administrators, and parents with the information needed to unravel the complexities of skilled reading. In the book, Sayeski presents a concise overview of the factors that influence reading acquisition and the types of instructional practices required to put struggling readers on the path to reading.

Engelhard to present guest lecture in Indonesia

George Engelhard, a professor in the Department of Educational Psychology, will present a guest lecture on invariant rater-mediated assessment at Universitas Islam Internasional Indonesia on Wednesday, Dec. 20.

The use of raters in educational assessments poses a number of issues related to rater biases, and this lecture focuses on the use of Rasch measurement theory to evaluate and adjust for potential areas of unfairness in rater-mediated assessments. Engelhard will teach a course on Rasch measurement theory in the spring.
