Media mention: Salaga quoted on college football recruiting expenses
Steve Salaga, an associate professor in the Department of Kinesiology, was quoted in two articles on the financial expenses of college football recruiting published by the Arnolt Center for Investigative Journalism at Indiana University and InvestigateTV.
In a story on the recruiting expenses of Pac-12 schools, Salaga said that name-image-likeness (NIL) deals for student athletes give schools power in the recruiting process. In a story on the recruiting expenses of Big Ten schools, he said schools could increase spending on recruitment due to the NCAA’s removal of a cap on the number of official visits recruits can make to prospective schools.
“You would expect that recruiting expenses would increase, all else equal, if programs are going to take advantage of that rule and bring in a larger overall number of recruits to evaluate,” Salaga said.
