Each year, a speaker is invited to deliver a lecture that honors Mary Frances Early’s quiet determination and dignity as she strived to ensure that the state’s flagship university became an institution of higher learning for all people of Georgia.
The 24th annual Mary Frances Early Lecture marks the 62nd anniversary of Ms. Early’s graduation in 1962 as the first African American to earn a graduate degree from UGA. To honor Ms. Early, Yvette K. Daniels will deliver the 2024 lecture.
Daniels currently serves as the director of university relations for the Georgia Department of Public Health with responsibility for employee engagement, the Applied Learning Program, and establishing effective college and university relationships through the promotion of public health programs at the state and local level. Daniels completed her term as the 77th president of the UGA Alumni Association in summer 2023; she was the first Black female president of the organization. She currently serves as a trustee for the UGA Foundation Board and is a member of the UGA Board of Visitors for the School of Public and International Affairs.
