Dean Spangler review announcement

Dear faculty and staff in the Mary Frances Early College of Education:

UGA reviews the administrative performance of its deans after every five years of service. These routine reviews comply with UGA Statutes and Board of Regents requirements. The purpose of the review is to provide an assessment that highlights the dean’s accomplishments during the past five years and identifies ways to improve the dean’s leadership and administration of the College.

This year, I have been asked to chair the committee that will review Dean Denise Spangler in the Mary Frances Early College of Education. Other committee members include:

  • Linda Campbell, professor of counseling and human development services
  • Bud Cooper, clinical professor and clinical education coordinator in kinesiology
  • Linda Harklau, professor of language and literacy education
  • Seock-Ho Kim, Omer Clyde and Elizabeth Parr Aderhold Professor in Research Methodology in educational psychology
  • Julie Luft, Athletic Association Professor of Science Education and Distinguished Research Professor in mathematics, science, and social studies education
  • John Mativo, Josiah Meigs Distinguished Teaching Professor in workforce education and instructional technology
  • Julianne Schmidt, associate professor of kinesiology
  • Molly Thomas, senior director of development for the Mary Frances Early College of Education constituent programs

Input from faculty and staff is an essential part of the review process. To this end, the committee will provide avenues for you to submit comments. Please watch your email in the coming weeks for information about how you can provide input. Finally, you may also contact me directly to submit comments by email at sswdean@uga.edu or by letter at the School of Social Work: 279 Williams Street University of Georgia, Athens, GA. 30602. All input must be submitted by Friday, March 29.

Information gathered during the review process will be seen only by members of the review committee and will not be retained after the review committee has completed its report. The committee’s report to the Provost will not contain attributions.

Thank you for taking time to participate in this review.

Sincerely,

Philip Hong
