Ardoin receives 2024 SEC Academic Leadership Development Program Travel Award
Scott Ardoin, associate dean for research and graduate education and professor in the Department of Educational Psychology, received the SEC Academic Leadership Development Program Travel Award from the Southeastern Conference (SEC).
The SEC Academic Leadership Development Program works to develop academic leaders for positions in SEC institutions and beyond.
“I am grateful to the SEC Academic Leadership Development Program for honoring me with this award. This opportunity will not only enable me to actively participate in meaningful discussions but will also facilitate the exchange of ideas with fellow administrators from SEC Colleges of Education,” Ardoin said. “Together, we are dedicated to enhancing the standard of research and graduate education within our respective institutions.”
Dumas receives 2024 Young Investigator Award from SfNC
Denis Dumas, an associate professor in the Department of Educational Psychology, recently received the 2024 Young Investigator Award from the Society for the Neuroscience of Creativity (SfNC) for his work in the field of gifted and creative education.
The award recognizes outstanding creativity scholars who received their Ph.D. degree or entered the field of creativity within the past 10 years.
“I was so honored to receive this award from SfNC,” said Dumas. “Creativity is a very complex phenomenon and understanding it requires many types of scientists working together, including neuroscientists and educational psychologists.”

Luft receives NARST’s 2024 Distinguished Contributions to Science Education Through Research Award
Julie Luft, the Athletic Association Professor of Science Education and Distinguished Research Professor in the Department of Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies Education, recently received the 2024 Distinguished Contributions to Science Education Through Research Award from the National Association for Research in Science Teaching (NARST).
This award recognizes an individual who, through research over an extended period of time, has made outstanding and continuing contributions, provided notable leadership, and made a substantial impact in the area of science education.
Luft will receive the award at NARST’s Annual International Conference.
Mativo receives 2022 ALMA award
John Mativo, a professor in the Department of Workforce Education and Instructional Technology, received the Annual Lioba Moshi Award for Service in African Studies (ALMA) for 2022 from the UGA African Studies Institute.
Established in 2012, the award recognizes recipients for their contributions and service to African studies at UGA.
The award will be presented at the African Studies Spring Lecture Award luncheon on Thursday, March 14.
