Media mention: Faculty, alumna quoted in The Chronicle of Higher Education

Laura Dean, a professor in the Department of Counseling and Human Development Services, and Danielle McDonald (M.Ed. ’96), associate vice president and dean of students at the University of South Florida and alumna of the College’s college student affairs administration program, were quoted in a story from The Chronicle of Higher Education on the pandemic’s effects on student organizations on college campuses.

When campus organizations switched to virtual meetings, students struggled to stay engaged and get involved the way they typically would prior to the pandemic. Many students also did not gain the same leadership experience in high school clubs that naturally segue into college involvement.

“When you think about a group of students who didn’t have that,” Dean said, “ I think none of us knew what to do.”
