Nominations for the 2024-25 UGA Teaching Academy Early Career Fellows Program

  • Nomination deadline: Tuesday, April 30

The University of Georgia’s Teaching Academy invites nominations for the 2024-25 Teaching Academy Fellows Program, which runs from August 2024 through May 2025. This program provides personal and group mentoring to early career faculty members in the areas of teaching and other early career issues. This includes, but is not restricted to, pedagogical techniques, classroom management, and student engagement at a Research I university.

  • Eligibility: Full-time faculty members of all career tracks who are in their first, second, or third year at UGA (began teaching during UGA fall semester 2022 or later) and have responsibility for teaching UGA courses for undergraduates, graduate students, or professional students are eligible.
  • Expectations: Participants are expected to enthusiastically engage in all program activities, which include periodic whole-group meetings and monthly small-group activities. Small groups comprise five early career participants and two senior Teaching Academy member-mentors.
  • Activities: Program participants learn about the mission of UGA’s Teaching Academy; get to know other early career faculty members from across campus; share experiences related to being early in their careers at UGA; meet and hear from seasoned UGA professors and administrators; see that quality instruction is important and valued at UGA; learn about the variety of instruction-related resources at UGA (e.g., Center for Teaching and Learning, Office of Service-Learning, CURO); and other issues facing all teachers, regardless of rank or classification (e.g., Academic Honesty).

Nominations to the Fellows Program are made by school/college deans, center/institute directors, or department heads.

The application should include:

  • The application form
  • A nomination letter from the dean/director/department head
  • The nominee’s curriculum vitae

Nomination letters should include:

  • The nominee’s name, title, academic rank, department, contact information, and UGA starting date (nominators may also indicate this on the form and omit it in the letter)
  • A brief description of the nominee’s teaching-related duties
  • A narrative describing why the nominee merits consideration

The deadline for nominations has been extended to Tuesday, April 30. Nomination materials should be submitted to Mark Huber at mhuber@uga.edu. The Teaching Academy’s Early Career Fellows Program is supported by the Office of the President, the Office of the Provost, and the Terry College of Business.
