Congratulations to the College’s three 2024 Presidential Award of Excellence honorees

Three students in the College recently received UGA’s 2024 Presidential Award of Excellence for their outstanding undergraduate careers.

The award recognizes students in their final year of study who demonstrate exceptional achievements in academics, extracurricular activities, or service to UGA or their College. This year, the University honored three College of Education students:

  • Claire Hauf (B.S.Ed. ’24), exercise and sport science
  • Casey Jokay (B.S.Ed. ’24), English education
  • Caroline Reedy (B.S.Ed. ’24), special education

Congratulations to the College’s 23 First Honor Graduates for spring 2024

A record-breaking number of First Honor Graduates in the College will be recognized at UGA’s spring 2024 Undergraduate Commencement ceremony on Friday, May 10.

To be a First Honor Graduate, a student must maintain a perfect 4.0 cumulative grade point average throughout their undergraduate studies, as well as in all college-level transfer work before or after enrolling at UGA.

Doctoral student receives 2024 Saeeda Peermahomed Award

Matthew Nyaaba, a second-year Ph.D. student in teacher education and elementary education, is this year’s Saeeda Peermahomed Award recipient. The award is given annually by International Student Life to recognize outstanding international students.

This award was created in memory of Saeeda Peermahomed, an international student from India who was studying to obtain a master’s degree in journalism when she was killed in a tragic automobile accident in North Georgia in 1979.

Celebrating graduation, future opportunities

Trent Nesbit didn’t get a typical high school graduation. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there was no in-person ceremony, and the occasion passed without the traditional fanfare.

Now, four years later, he is making the most out of his college graduation. As UGA’s undergraduate student speaker, Nesbit will help his peers to close out their college careers. Nesbit, an economics major in the Terry College of Business and sport management minor in the Mary Frances Early College of Education, appreciates the broad scope of opportunities ahead of him.
