College of Education faculty selected for 2024 faculty fellows programs
The UGA Center for Teaching and Learning selected four faculty members in the College for the 2024 cohort of three faculty fellows programs:
2024-26 Lilly Teaching Fellows

2024-25 Fellows for Transformative Teaching
- Amy Murphy, clinical associate professor, Department of Educational Theory and Practice
2024-25 Senior Teaching Fellows
- Tisha Lewis Ellison, associate professor, Department of Language and Literacy Education
- Kristin Sayeski, associate professor, Department of Communication Sciences and Special Education
The faculty fellows programs connect faculty across campus from similar professional levels to share ideas and experiences and collaborate on teaching practices and pedagogy through discussions and workshops.

Appling, Giordano complete three invited presentations on adolescent addiction in South Korea
Brandee Appling and Amanda Giordano, associate professors in the Department of Counseling and Human Development Services, were invited to conduct three presentations in South Korea on the topic of addictions counseling—one at the Korea Counseling Association Conference, one at Korea University, and one at Korea National University of Education.
Appling and Giordano also met with three organizations in South Korea that specialize in internet addiction policy, prevention, and treatment to learn about the country’s strategies for addressing the issue.
Bhattacharya selected by U.S. Department of State for prestigious English Language Specialist project
The U.S. Department of State announced the selection of Usree Bhattacharya, associate professor in the Department of Language and Literacy Education, for a 12-week English language specialist virtual training project focused on “Project-Based Learning and Technology for Enhancing Speaking Skills of IT and Technical University Students” in Russia. Bhattacharya is part of a select group, as her project is one of over 250 that the English Language Specialist Program supports each year.
Bhattacharya’s extensive background in teaching, service, and research uniquely positions her to lead this project. With over a decade of experience in online instruction and integrating digital tools and project-based learning methodologies into language education, she has developed and delivered numerous courses at various academic levels. She brings to this project a unique combination of skills in multilingual literacy research, hands-on experience with artificial intelligence in language education, and a deep understanding of the communication needs of students in IT and technical fields. She will leverage these skills to create interactive workshops for educators in fall 2024.
The English Language Specialist Program is the premier opportunity for leaders in the field of teaching English to speakers of other languages to enact meaningful and sustainable changes in the way that English is taught abroad. Through projects developed by U.S. embassies in more than 80 countries, English language specialists work directly with local teacher trainers, educational leaders, and ministry of education officials to exchange knowledge, build capacity, and establish partnerships benefiting participants, institutions, and communities in the U.S. and overseas.

Reeves participates in 200th episode of Silver Lining for Learning webinar series
Thomas Reeves, professor emeritus of learning, design, and technology, appeared in the 200th episode of the Silver Lining for Learning (SLL) webinar series with David Berliner, regents professor emeritus at Arizona State University. SLL is an ongoing conversation on the future of learning with educators, education leaders, innovators, and learners from across the globe. Over the past four years, the series has hosted educators, students, and innovators from around the world, sharing insights on the future of learning and the role of technology in education.
Reeves, a leading figure in educational technology, has dedicated his career to improving educational practice through innovative research and development. His research interests encompass educational technology in developing countries, authentic tasks for learning, educational design research, medical and public health education, and prison education.

Two College alumni named to UGA’s 2024 40 Under 40 Class
Two alumni of the College were recently named to UGA’s 40 Under 40 Class of 2024.
The College’s honorees are Antavious Coates (B.S.F.C.S. ’09, M.S. ’11), executive director of NFL player marketing for CAA Football, and Peyton Fraser (B.S. ’14, B.S.Ed. ’14), senior technical program manager for Microsoft.
The 40 Under 40 program celebrates the personal, professional, and philanthropic achievements of UGA graduates who are under the age of 40. Honorees exemplify leadership in their industries and communities and uphold the Pillars of the Arch, which are wisdom, justice, and moderation.
