UGA internal search: Associate vice presidents for research

The UGA Office of Research invites applications and nominations for two associate vice president for research (AVPR) positions:

  • Associate vice president for research, faculty affairs and campus engagement
  • Associate vice president for research, strategic research growth

The associate vice president for faculty affairs and campus engagement leads the office’s initiatives and activities in supporting faculty researchers by overseeing professional development programs and campus engagement activities. This AVPR directs the Office of Postdoctoral Affairs, the Visiting Researcher/Scholar Program, and internal and external research honors programs, as well as leading specific research initiatives, among other areas of responsibility. The associate vice president for strategic research growth cultivates and supports interdisciplinary research teams across campus to advance and realize the full potential of current and future integrative teams for the growth of UGA’s intellectual capacity and grant funding support. This AVPR oversees large proposal support and internal seed grant programs to foster strategic research growth and serves as a liaison and catalyst for developing new centers, institutes, and strategic initiatives for growing interdisciplinary research, among other areas of responsibility. Both positions will be time-limited (up to three years) and open only to tenured full professors at UGA. Applicants should possess a record of sound administrative, personnel, and fiscal management at UGA or another large research institution. Candidates should also demonstrate a passion for collaborating collegially with a wide range of internal and external constituencies.

Jeanette Taylor, vice provost for academic affairs, will chair the search advisory committee. The search for both AVPRs will run concurrently, and one committee will consider applicants for both positions. Additional search committee members include:

  • Elizabeth J. Brisbois, associate professor and Distinguished Faculty Fellow in the School of Chemical, Materials, and Biomedical Engineering in the College of Engineering
  • Andreas Copan, postdoctoral scholar in the School of Environmental, Civil, Agricultural, and Mechanical Engineering in the College of Engineering
  • Charles A. Easley IV, associate professor of environmental health science and associate dean for research in the College of Public Health
  • Derek Eberhart, executive director of Innovation Gateway and associate vice president for research
  • Adam Goodie, professor of behavioral and brain sciences program, director of the Georgia Gambling and Decision Lab, and head of the Department of Psychology in the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences
  • Carla Hadden, director of the Center for Applied Isotope Studies
  • Jason Richardson, Dianne Isakson Distinguished Professor in the Department of Physiology and Pharmacology in the College of Veterinary Medicine
  • Shelly Terrazas, director of finance and human resources in the Office of Research
  • Harshavardhan Thippareddi, John Bekkers Professor of Poultry Science and associate dean for research in the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences
