Two opportunities to learn about literacy education in CCSD

Clarke County School District (CCSD) is launching a literacy awareness campaign to help students, families, teachers, partners, and community members understand the steps they are taking to create a culture of literacy within the district in an effort to ensure all students are reading on grade level as early in their academic experience as possible.

One of the first steps of this journey was sharing the “why” behind the changes they made in their approach to teaching children to read, which resulted in the “State of Literacy in CCSD” video. Please watch this 16-minute video and share it with your educator preparation students.

In addition, please join us for a presentation with Christine Havens-Hafer, ELA K-5 coordinator of curriculum for CCSD on Thursday, Jan. 9 from 1-2 p.m. in Aderhold Hall Room 206. Havens-Hafer will share information about the literacy curricula CCSD is using, PL in which CCSD teachers have engaged, CCSD’s scope and sequence for delivering information about the new ELA standards that will roll out in 2025-26, and the new intervention programs CCSD has implemented in 2023-24 and 2024-25.
