From AERA: Option for preserving data
The American Educational Research Association (AERA) knows that many people have questions and concerns regarding the availability of federal public use data files that education researchers rely on.
Its partners at the Inter-University Consortium for Political and Social Research (ICPSR) have an archive tool, Data Lumos, for crowdsourcing government data. DataLumos accepts deposits of public data resources from the community and recommendations of public data resources that ICPSR itself might add to DataLumos. AERA encourages members and others at institutions to use this site as a resource. ICPSR also offers the option to submit data via Dropbox. If uploading, formatting in this structure will be most helpful:
- Folder: Name of the study (e.g., National Survey of Family Growth)
- Folder: Wave (NSFG 2019)
- Files: any CSV, DAT, etc. (documentation and data files are both welcome)
- Folder: Wave (NSFG 2019)
AERA hopes this resource will be valuable to education researchers and assist in ongoing efforts to ensure the broader accessibility of data from government agencies.
