New USG policy impacting historical eLC courses
Beginning in July, eLearning Commons (eLC) courses that are five years or older will begin to be purged from eLC. This will affect courses generated by Athena (UGA’s student information system) and non-Athena courses in eLC. Instructors will be notified in advance if their courses are in scope to be purged.
This new University System of Georgia (USG) policy, approved in January, will provide optimal system performance, ensure that contractual obligations are met, and maintain the security and privacy of eLC data.
Key points:
- In March, the Center for Teaching and Learning will contact instructors who have eLC courses that are five years or older that are in scope to be purged. Instructors will have until Saturday, May 31 to archive their historical course information in other locations.
- We anticipate that eLC courses in scope to be purged will no longer be visible to instructors in June, providing a preview of the changes that will take effect with the actual purge in July.
- In July, the purge process will begin so that eLC courses that are five years or older will be permanently and irreversibly removed from eLC.
This policy applies to:
- Athena courses: Only affects courses from semesters before spring 2021 (i.e., older courses)
- Non-Athena courses: Applies to courses that were created at least five years ago and have not been accessed in at least four years (i.e., inactive for a long period)
Please share this information with appropriate individuals in your units. Questions about this process can be sent to Ruth Poproski, associate director for teaching and learning.
