Media mention: Zhai quoted in Futurity
Xiaoming Zhai, an associate professor in the Department of Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies Education and director of AI4STEM Education Center, was quoted in an article from Futurity about how artificial intelligence (AI) can speed up the grading process for teachers.
The article features a recent study by Zhai and a team of UGA researchers, which looked at how a type of AI, called a large language model, grades students’ work compared to human graders.
“Asking kids to draw a model, to write an explanation, to argue with each other are very complex tasks,” Zhai said. “Teachers often don’t have enough time to score all the students’ responses, which means students will not be able to receive timely feedback.”
