UGA Alert emergency notification

The annual fall UGA Alert test will take place tomorrow on Thursday, Aug. 28 at 10:50 a.m. After the test, a survey will be posted on the Office of Emergency Preparedness (OEP) website. Please take a moment to complete it. Your feedback helps our office improve emergency communications across campus.

What to do during the test

  • Acknowledge all notifications when they activate.
  • If safe, practice your  building’s evacuation plan. At a minimum, pause and consider the steps you would take in a real evacuation.
  • Know at least two exit routes from buildings you frequently visit.
  • If you have mobility limitations, communicate your needs to those around you. OEP can assist with creating personalized emergency plans for individuals with disabilities.

Prior to the test

It is important that faculty, staff, and students review their contact information in the UGA Alert system to ensure their phone number, email address, and notification preferences are accurate. You can also opt-in to receive severe weather warnings, like severe thunderstorm and flash flood alerts.

UGA Alert messages are sent through text, email, and phone call; posted on X at @UGAAlert, @Universityofga, and @UGAOEP; posted on the main UGA website and on the UGA emergency website; displayed on digital screens in various campus buildings; activated on the UGA desktop alerting app; and sent as push notifications through the UGA Safe mobile app.

Types of UGA Alert messaging

  • UGA Alert: Emergency messages—immediate and significant threat to campus; take action now
  • Timely warnings: UGA Police is assessing an ongoing or continuing threat; may need to take future action
