College mourns passing of George Gazda

We are deeply saddened to learn of the death of George Gazda, research professor emeritus and former associate dean for research in the College of Education. Gazda co-founded the counseling psychology program in the College and assured its accreditation through the American Psychological Association while serving as its first training director. His impact on the College spanned more than three decades, touching many lives and leaving a legacy of research and professionalism that will long endure.

A visitation will be held Thursday, Sept. 18, from 5-8 p.m. at Bernstein Funeral Home (3195 Atlanta Hwy, Athens, GA 30606). A brief rosary service will be held at 5 p.m. A funeral mass will be held Friday, Sept. 19, 2025, at 2 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church (958 Epps Bridge Pkwy, Athens, GA 30606).
