Hamel quoted in the Atlanta Voice

Erin Hamel, an assistant professor in the Department of Educational Psychology, was quoted in an Atlanta Voice article on a study she co-authored about early childhood educators.

The study found that only 10% of these teachers have time to complete their work due to a lack of planning time, leading to burnout and teachers leaving the profession.

“To take care of children, we must take care of teachers. When teachers reported not having enough time to do their work tasks, they did their work during their personal time. Over half of them were using their personal breaks and lunch to do their work. 41% were coming in early and staying late,” Hamel said. ‘All of these methods they’re trying to use to meet their job expectations encroach on their personal time, and they can eventually lead to burnout and stress.”

Schmidt quoted in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution

Matthew Schmidt, a professor in the Department of Workforce Education and Instructional Technology, was quoted in an Atlanta Journal-Constitution article about his research on virtual learning.

His work includes the Gaming 4 Good project, which uses video game design to engage neurodiverse middle school students in STEAM subjects, as well as leading the Participatory, Interdisciplinary eXperience & Learning (PIXL) Lab at UGA.

“That’s what we are trying to do, to really think about creating learning experiences as opposed to delivering content over a distance,” Schmidt said.
