Join the Generative Learning and Complexity Lab (GLCL) for a Lunch and Learn event, “Fallback and the Inner Terrain of Complexity,” with Valerie Livesay.

Complexity isn’t something to conquer—it’s something to come into relationship with.

In this 90-minute experiential session, we invite you into the lived experience of being human in complex times—not through cognitive mastery, but through embodied presence and reflective inquiry. Guided by Valerie Livesay’s Fallback Theory and the metaphor of theatre, participants will explore how development isn’t just a path of forward motion, but one that includes moments of fallback—when, under pressure, we revert to older, simpler ways of making sense of ourselves and the world.

Participants will be invited to reflect on a scene in their life where complexity triggered them to constrict, to narrow, to lose access to their fuller, more grounded self. From here, participants will begin to explore how those moments might be less about failure—and more about invitation. This is an invitation to experience complexity not just as an external condition to understand, but as a living force within—one that calls for presence, compassion, and integration.
