Pre-K mentor readers

The Early Learning Center East Reading Mentor Program is a school-year volunteer opportunity designed to support early literacy development among our pre-K students. Through this program, dedicated volunteers will be paired with individual students and visit once a week to read together and participate in a brief, hands-on literacy activity.

ELC East currently serves 36 pre-K students, with the goal of providing each student with a consistent reading mentor. Mentors will serve one day per week—Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday—from 10-10:20 a.m., beginning in September and continuing through May. ELC East will coordinate student-to-mentor assignments, scheduling, literacy activities, and all on-site logistics. Volunteers will be required to complete a Clarke County School District background check before participating.

This program provides UGA students and community volunteers with an opportunity to build meaningful relationships with young children while helping develop foundational literacy skills and fostering a love of reading. We welcome individuals and campus organizations interested in partnering with ELC East to support our youngest learners.
